What if my home isn’t cute enough for newborn photos at home? | Spokane Newborn Photographer

The idea of having pictures taken in our home can make us feel a little bit on display. We all wonder if our home will look good in pictures and the answer is that even if your home isn’t Pinterest worthy cute, it can still be great for newborn photos at home and here’s why.

Preserving the memory. By having newborn pictures taken in your home, you are preserving the memory of a fleeting time when you brought your baby home to your house. It’s okay to have a normal house, we all do. You don’t need to have a million dollar home to put on display. I’ve taken beautiful newborn pictures in bottom floor apartments. There are a few thing that can be done to enhance the look of your home if you’re truly worried about it.

Simplify decor and textiles. If you feel like you want to refresh your home before baby arrives and before your newborn photoshoot, a few key items can make a big difference. Fresh curtains in a white, sheer color. Plain and simple textiles on your bed in neutral colors. Remove excess items from the walls, just one or two simple art pieces can really refresh a room.

Focus on outfits. Another way to help a newborn session in your “not cute” home is to focus more heavily on your families outfits. Add some accessories or a little extra dash of style. This will draw attention to the people in the picture rather than the home in the background. The background of your photos is barely visible when I take newborn pictures always, because the focus is on the people.

Declutter. My last tip is to declutter. I’m not talking about all the baby items for your new little cutie. I’m talking about the miscellaneous items that have been sitting on the shelf for the last four years. Doing a little decluttering can go a long way. The baby stuff can stay put, because it will just add to the character of the pictures.
