FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of photographer are you?

I specialize in what is known as “Lifestyle” photography. Lifestyle photography sits comfortably between traditional portrait photography and un-posed documentary photography. My method is to pose your family lightly and then let the moments unfold. The result is very natural and comfortable posing that is true to the people that I photograph. My method works really well for those who tend to feel awkward or uncomfortable in front of the camera, because I allow you to just be with your family and that’s enough.

What’s your personality and energy like?

I’m an introvert by nature and tend to be on the quiet but friendly side. I am not one to bring big party energy. My calm and level demeanor really suits my line of work with newborns and families. I’m calm when kids are fussy and very patient in general. If you're looking for a photographer who understands where you’re at in postpartum or in raising young kids and that will bring calm to the chaos, I’m the right photographer for you.

I run my sessions in a very organized and adaptable way that feels laidback and fun. Meeting with me for photos feels like you’re meeting with an old friend.

What is your editing style?

My editing style is found where true-to-life color meets a filmy, cinematic look. My work tends to be cooler (or more on the blue side) in tone and the vibrant or bold colors are a tad muted. I love some crunchy contrast. I edit for clean skin tones and to make the whole image color cohesive. There is some variance in the colors of each of my sessions, because I edit to make each session look it’s best rather than trying to fully put it into an editing box.

Sometimes my work looks a little grainy and like film and that is because I primarily use natural light to achieve that intentionally for a dreamier look.

Do you offer extended family photo Sessions?

Yes, I can accommodate extended family photo sessions. For those unsure of what this is, it would be large family photos which include multiple generations and family tree branches. For example, grandparents, their two sets of children with their spouses and all of the grandchildren.

Please inquire for pricing information.

What if we don’t like to smile?

I honor the uniqueness of every family and I never require anyone to smile. Just simply show up as you are.

What if I’m typically awkard in front of the camera?

No fear here! My method of posing will make anyone a natural model, no experience required. I allow you to just be with your family and there’s no pressure. I never make anyone smile or look at the camera. If you’d rather I just capture your family interacting with each other and pretending like I’m not there, I’m all for it.

I guide you into poses and allow real moments to unfold, which feels much more natural than traditional portrait photography.

Who typically hires you?

Most of my clients are busy, but intentional moms with two or more kiddos. They tend to value connection over perfection and want their collection of photos to tell the true story of their family. They don’t over-dress for photos and care about capturing emotion over the perfectly posed, smiling-at-the-camera photos. The families that I work with tend to be very snuggly and attached. They have high-end family photos displayed on their walls from last year and they also likely have sourdough starter in their fridge. If this sounds like you, we are a perfect match.

The families who hire me come back year after year for their annual family photoshoot.

Where will my session be held?

I am primarily a natural light, on location photographer, in other words I don’t have a brick and mortar studio. Together we will decide on the best location for your family photo session- Somewhere outdoors in beautiful Spokane, or in the comfort of your home. Newborn sessions occur within your home.

When do newborn sessions occur?

I believe the most ideal time for newborn photos is within the first 5 days, but this isn’t always possible so within the first month is what I recommend to preserve as many newborn details as possible.

When should my maternity session occur?

I recommend having maternity photos taken right around week 30 of your pregnancy. Be sure to reach out at least 3-4 weeks before you get to that point to ensure there’s room on my calendar for you.

What should I wear?

I tell everyone to keep this simple and true to you. I always recommend avoiding vibrant colors, graphics/logos and athletic shoes. I offer a little style guide to everyone who books with me and personalized style coaching for those who want it. After booking, I open myself up to you for session planning, we can text pictures and outfit links to find the perfect look for your photos. I also have tons of tips on my blog if you want to check that out.

Will I get digital images after the shoot?

I understand the importance of family photographs that can be enjoyed for a lifetime and passed down for generations. I offer one simple, all-inclusive collection of images from your session. You will get the edited, digital, high resolution jpeg image files to be downloaded, shared, or printed. I provide a minimum of 75 images for all sessions except for children’s fine art portraits and extended family sessions.

When, how and where can I get additional prints and products?

When you receive your online gallery invitation, you will be able to download your images and you can order prints directly from me. The gallery is active for 30 days, so be sure to download and/or order your print images as soon as possible. I do try to keep an archive of photos, so if I took your photos a while ago, chances are I still have them and can order prints, just ask me.

How do you choose which images we get from our session?

I carefully examine each image from the session and select the images that best represent your unique family and my artistic style. I present you with a minimum of 75 images (with the exceptions mentioned above), but there are often many more images included in your gallery, because I don’t like to withhold your memories. If I deliver it, it’s yours. No picking and choosing or upselling, I believe in transparency.

How far out are you booked?

I typically book out one to three months in advance, but sometimes I add more room to my calendar for last minute sessions. Please consider booking while you are in your second trimester of pregnancy for maternity and newborn photos, in order to have the best chance at having a session time . Already delivered? No problem, I try to maintain space in my schedule for last minute newborn bookings! Babies come when they want to come, so I try to accommodate that.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Very rarely. I don’t offer mini sessions for family photos, maternity or newborns. I prefer a much more personalized and connected experience with my clients. Most families who work with me book a maternity & newborn session for each child that they have as they come and one annual family photo session if they’re not having maternity photos done during that time of year. Quality over quantity on this.

How much does this all cost?

My sessions begin at $750. My sessions are all-inclusive, so no up-selling later.

They include a minimum of 75 edited, digital images with a print release, a complimentary printed photo album and some other supplemental services that aid in the whole process. I will not promise a small amount of images and upsell the rest to you later, you’ll know exactly what you are getting for the price, no surprises.

I provide the option to purchase boutique quality print products and wall art with each session. I’m happy to provide a current print price sheet to those who inquire so that you can plan for that if you choose to.
