SPOKANE MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER: When should I book my maternity session?
The simple answer to when to book maternity sessions is when you think about it! The earlier you get on my books the better in order to ensure that you’ll get a session. I typically try to leave some room in my schedule for unexpected maternity and newborn photos. I really prioritize these shoots, because they are my favorite and this season of life is fleeting so there are only short windows of opportunity to get these photos.
We will book your session around week 30 of your pregnancy. I find that week 30 is when the belly really pops, but the serious swelling hasn’t usually set in. Most women are still feeling pretty well at this point which makes for a happier mama at the photos.
Maternity sessions are a great way to connect with your spouse and older children before baby arrives. This is also a great opportunity to honor your body and the amazing things that it is doing for you and your little one. Some day, your baby will grow and wonder what mama looked like while she was pregnant and you’ll be able to pull these photos out and show him or her.
SPOKANE MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER: Why should I book a maternity session with my newborn session?
Maternity sessions go so well with newborn sessions for preserving the memories of these fleeting times. Pregnancy and the newborn phase really do fly by in kind of a blur with all of the lack of sleep and hormone fluctuations. Having pictures taken really helps preserve the memories so that you can always look back on this period in time.
Booking a maternity session with your newborn session has other perks as well, especially when both are booked with the same photographer. A maternity session allows me to get to know you and your family prior to your newborn session when things can be a little more raw and emotional. Maternity sessions give me an opportunity to connect with your older children so that they aren’t thrown off by my presence and I’m not a complete stranger when the newborn photos take place later on, this is especially useful for households with toddlers.
So many women hide from the camera while pregnant (I did it too!). Pregnancy is a time to honor all that your body is doing as it’s changing over nine months and then beyond into postpartum with your new baby. A maternity session is an opportunity to have beautiful pictures of your pregnancy for you and your unborn child to cherish later on years down the road. You’ll be glad to have the pictures once you’re not pregnant anymore. You also may find that the pictures give you more confidence as your pregnancy progresses- kind of like a reminder that your are beautiful and what you’re doing is amazing even when you may not feel like it (that was my experience anyways!).
