HOW TO DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR PICTURE DAY- FROM A SPOKANE SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER
We all want our kids to look their best on school picture day! Here’s my checklist for how to get your child’s best pictures yet!
Simple and Groomed
Avoid having your child wear too many accessories, like necklaces and bright hair clips, because they can be distracting in pictures. Groom your child’s hair in a simple and easy to maintain way. I suggest a fresh haircut and sending a comb with your child to run through their hair before the picture (age dependent). Sending your child to school with a baby wipe or two for wiping their face can be helpful if their picture time is after lunch.
Solid and Neutral
School photos are taken from the waist, usually shoulders up. This means, the pants and shoes your child wears isn’t as important as the top, so focus there. I recommend avoiding patterns, graphics, logos and any particularly vibrant colors (like red). Often in school photography, the backdrop has a lot of vibrant colors going on, so I recommend wearing neutral or natural toned clothing to create balance, too much color is, well…too much.
Comfortable
Allow your child to wear a shirt or dress that is comfortable and fits well. Avoid clothing that is too baggy, too tight or too frilly. A comfortable child is a happy child, your pictures will turn out better.
Natural
Remind your child that it is okay to be themselves! Let them know it’s okay if they don’t feel like smiling at the weird photographer. I promise, taking the pressure off will result in better pictures and your child is more likely to smile.
