Why you should have newborn photos taken at home | Spokane Newborn Photographer
As a Spokane family photographer, one of the most common questions I get is “why should I have newborn photos taken at home?”
The truth is that there are so so many reasons to want to have your newborn photos taken at home. Newborn photos can be so much more than what they seem, they are not only photos of your new baby, but they are a celebration your family entering into a new season of parenthood. In this article, you’ll find out why I believe newborn photos at home are the best and why you should want these photos taken within your home.
Comfort.
There truly is no place like home during your early postpartum season. Postpartum can be a very vulnerable time for moms and comfort is unbelievably important. The experience of postpartum is unlike any other, you go through these feelings of incredible joy and pride for your new baby, but at the same time many moms don’t feel like themselves, because they’re tired and in the middle of a huge transformation (of becoming a mother)- it’s this feeling of what just happened to me and my body, but look at this incredible baby that I made. Postpartum is so, so special and a time that is fleeting. Comfort during postpartum can mean, not leaving the house for the first several weeks, having privacy to work through breastfeeding within your home, being able to eat and drink to nourish your healing body. There’s so much going on and comfort is huge.
2. Ease.
The second reason I believe that there is no better place for newborn photos than your home is the ease of being at your home. When you don’t have to leave your home, you don’t need to pack a huge bag to bring along everything that you need for your new baby. You don’t have to get dressed for photos, feed your baby, pack to be out of the house, rush through traffic or any of the struggles that come with leaving your home in postpartum. The photographer comes to you and there’s so much less to manage. More than not having to get out of the house, you’ll have everything you need for your baby right there and you can go back to your regular routine as soon as the photos are done. Postpartum can be hard enough, so making the photos as easy as possible is great for everyone.
3. Safety.
There is no where more safe for your baby than in your home. The environment isn’t changing. Your baby isn’t being placed on props being used for hundreds of other babies and families. You don’t have to take them for a drive. In my newborn photography, I use baby-led posing, meaning I do not put babies in unsafe or unnatural positions or props to take their photos- they’re either laying on your bed or in your arms. It truly doesn’t get any more safe than within your home.
4. Preserving the memory of the season.
The last reason that I believe that newborn photos taken at home are the best, is because you are preserving a fantastical portrayal of reality of the postpartum season for you and your immediate family. You’ll all have photos holding the new baby within your home and interacting in a way that you do in day to day life. You can dress comfy if you want to and really just enjoy the experience and the memory of having the photos taken.
